Orioles: The morning news

The Dominican Republic WBC team is on the way to play the Orioles today at Fort Lauderdale Stadium, though Alex Rodriguez will not be coming. He's headed for Vail, Colo., to have a cyst on his hip examined and there is talk that he may withdraw from the WBC. There still will be plenty of stars on the Dominican team, including Miguel Tejada, David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez.

Newly signed pitcher Adam Eaton took his physical this morning and said he will talk to the Orioles media later this morning.

Pitcher Alfredo Simon has arrived in camp after a long and winding trip through the work visa process. He's off to a very late start in the competition for places on Dave Trembley's 12 or 13-man pitching staff, but there's still plenty time for him to get a decent look from the coaching staff.

Rich Hill told Jeff Zrebiec this morning that the swelling in his elbow has retreated, but he will not throw today. He might resume playing catch tomorrow.
