Whose jersey would you wear proudly in 2009?

Hope everyone had a solid weekend. People were still dropping by the bar and commenting on previous topics, which is great.

Saturday we celebrated my son's 10th birthday. It's really weird to think that I have a child that's now in double digits (and still wasn't alive when the Orioles were last good). Guess I really am getting old.

I'd like to put some songs on the jukebox to commemorate Alex's birthday, but it would be mainly Harry Potter-related stuff, like the bands -- and I am not making them up -- Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Moaning Myrtles and the Whomping Willows.

I am not going to subject you guys to that. So you can choose the music. I'll just supply the quarters.

For my son's birthday I was considering getting him a new Ravens jersey (he has a Todd Heap one that's getting too small), but we didn't go there.

As many of you know, choosing a jersey is difficult stuff. You need to make sure it's someone who will stay around and be productive. There are a whole lot of people who are stuck with obsolete Boller and Tejada jerseys. In the world of changing rosters, there's gotta be some serious thought in the selection - since these things aren't cheap.

I have no jerseys myself, primarily because I am a professional sportswriter and we just don’t carry that fandom, thing around. But even if I weren’t, I don’t think I’d do the jersey thing. I guess it goes back a little to the whole role model discussion this weekend.

But a lot of people -- kids and adults -- love wearing sports jerseys and that's fine with me. To each their own.

I am curious, however, as to whose jersey you would select right now if you were so inclined. Would you get a Joe Flacco Ravens' jersey or a Nick Markakis' O's jersey since both are now solid bets to be around and productive for a while. Do you go with another pro team or sport or do you take the safe route and go with a college, so that it remains in fashion for years?
