US Airways to charge for pillows, blankets

Anybody surprised that US Airways is going to start charging fliers for pillows and blankets? You shouldn't be. They already charge for drinks, like coffee and Coke, and checked bags and some seat reservations. If they - and the airline industry - could figure out a way to charge for parachutes and oxygen masks, they would.

It's called a la carte pricing and it's boosting their bottom line. A report in the Arizona Republic says US Airways scored some $100 million in revenue from service fees in the fourth quarter. Who's gonna give that up? The only airline not sippin the tea is Southwest.

US Airways will begin selling a $7 Power-Nap sack kit that includes blanket, inflatable neck pillow, eyeshades and earplugs. I say bring your own (maybe that Snuggie you got for Christmas) and deny them even the slightest revenue lift for giving passengers the shaft. This comes just as I was starting to like them again because of Capt. Sully and Hudson Miracle crew.
