Sloppy game last night but a critical one for Maryland's morale. Terps really needed to win a road game.
I think Maryland knew that -- if this season is to amount to anything -- it just couldn't lose to a team with just one ACC victory this season.
Granted, that one Georgia Tech win was against Wake Forest. And granted, Georgia Tech has some size inside. But the Yellow Jackets really struggle to score. In the past 13 games, Tech hasn't shot above 50 percent even once.
What I saw on Gary Williams' face last night was relief. He knows his team has to scrap to win an ACC game. And scrap they did. The Terps won basically without Adrian Bowie, who had a high fever, and with Sean Mosley shooting 0-for-6 and Dave Neal 2-for-10.
Maryland double-teamed Georgia Tech's two big men inside almost every time they touched the ball.
"It's a gamble because they do have good (other) players," Williams said. "We have been stung pretty good from the three-point line in the last couple of league games, but we were tough enough to say, 'If they make some, OK, but we can't let them dominate inside.' "
