I was mildly amused yesterday when I read that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was the latest Bush administration official to cash in on her government service -- with a three-book deal worth $2.5 million. A book about her White House years is due out in 2011; she'll follow that with a memoir and a YA version, according to an AP report.

Then today's news from the New York Observer: Kathy Griffin, who has made a career out of her self-deprecating humor about being a third-rate star, has a deal worth more than $2 million deal for a memoir.

So, let's review the math, students: Secy. of State = $833,000/book and D-lister = $2M/book.

What's wrong with that equation?
