Jennifer Hudson to return to gospel roots

Jennifer Hudson, whose self-titled R&B CD received mixed reviews but has garnered a Grammy and several NAACP Image awards, will record a gospel album in the spring, according to contactmusic.com.

Contactmusic.com cites MediaTakeOut.com as its only source for this report.

"[Jennifer] has always wanted to explore different genres and she's recorded gospel before, so it makes a lot of sense,'' the source told mediatakeout.com

Hudson, who was raised in the church and sang in the choir, has done well as secular artist. Her latest CD includes one gospel song - "Jesus Promised Me a Home Over There."

Hudson recently returned to the public stage after grieving the deaths of her mother, brother and nephew. Hudson's estranged brother-in-law is charged in the killings.

From her performances at the Super Bowl, Grammys and NAACP Image Awards, you could tell that Hudson was priming herself for much more than a R&B tour, which she will do with Robin Thicke.

I can't wait for the release of the gospel album.
