Are you concerned about the Ravens' defensive coaching changes?

Some serious contemplation given to Monday's topic, and I appreciate it.

It's a tough call, watching a team get to the doorstep of the Super Bowl and then knowing they may have to let some key performers walk.

I wasn't surprised at all by the majority's insistence that Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis need to be re-signed.

I guess what caught me off-guard (pun intended) was the outpouring for center Jason Brown. Several of you said he should be priority No. 1 this offseason. Wow.

Brown did a terrific job and we all know how important an offensive line is. But Brown may be the least heralded of the five Ravens' starters facing free agency -- a list that also includes Lewis, Suggs, safety Jim Leonhard and linebacker Bart Scott.

So I just assumed the popular opinion would be centered (have to stop these puns) on the defense first. I guess a big man like Brown can't slip under the radar -- especially with knowledgeable Ravens fans on duty.

I think if I had to enumerate the pending free-agent priorities, I'd go Suggs, Brown, Lewis, Leonhard and Scott.

I've always liked the way Scott plays, and I don't think he is just a product of a great system. But I agree that the Ravens can probably absorb his loss better than the departure of the others.

Speaking of losses, we haven't yet hit on the defection of defensive coordinator Rex Ryan to the New York Jets. And since it dovetails with Monday's announcement that Greg Mattison is taking over for Ryan, today is a good day to bring it up.

We all know a coach is only as good as his personnel. And we know the Ravens have great defensive personnel, even if they lose a few key members in free agency.

But we also know Ryan was an excellent schemer and motivator (and he certainly deserved a head coaching shot). And, frankly, we know little about Mattison on the pro end.

Then again, the Marvin Lewis to Mike Nolan to Ryan baton-passing seemed fairly painless, so there is history on the side of this promotion.

Still, how much will the Ravens veteran D miss Rex Ryan? Are you confident it won't skip a beat under Mattison?
