Ravens big here, but Steelers bigger there

The ratings from Sunday's Ravens-Steelers telecast weren't nearly as close as the game -- and there is no blaming the officiating for the outcome. In Baltimore, the game on Channel 13 drew 35.7 percent of the audience, with a 56 percent share. (The share measures the percentage of households with TVs in use watching a program.) In Pittsburgh, the CBS affiliate registered 48.1/70. (A colleague, who shall remain nameless, said upon hearing those numbers that it just shows how there is nothing else to do in Pittsburgh.)

If you wonder whether Baltimore's number was lower because the game was here and people who would have watched were instead at M&T Bank Stadium, that could have had only a slight effect. Each ratings point in Baltimore is about 11,000 homes. So, figuring about three people per household, the 70,000-plus at the stadium could change the rating by only about two points.
