Coach Friedgen made a point today of talking about field position in the Virginia Tech game. Field position is most important, of course, in close games -- particularly low-scoring ones. Sounds like the coach might be expecting one of those. "I think field position will be a very important part of this ballgame," is the way the coach put it.
Other notes from Friedgen media lunch:
*Maryland often pipes in crowd noise to its practices. The Terps are doing that even more than usual to prepare for the Virginia Tech crowd. "We've even had crowd noise on our punt protection this week," Fridge said.
*The coach said he considers Virginia Tech a rivalry game -- partly because he and Hokies coach Frank Beamer are so familiar with one another. "I think it has to be a rivalry anytime you're playing a border state. Probably Frank and my relationship adds to it. I've said in the past I would like to have in-state rivals," Friedgen said.
