Coach Friedgen is fond of rivalry games. He talks wistfully of the Georgia Tech-Georgia games when he was coaching down in Atlanta. He also talks about how he's excited that the Terps will get West Virginia back on the schedule in 2010.
So what I'm wondering is...do fans consider Virginia a suitable rival? Maybe not this year, of course, since the Cavaliers are having a down season. But does Virginia generally fit the bill?
Maryland and Virginia play every year, are in neighboring states and have played some exciting games of late. Cavaliers coach Al Groh, a Virginia grad, said today: "It is a very important game to our team. It's our annual game so it certainly designates it as being different from other games."
Anyway, feel free to let me know if this meets all the criteria that define a hot rivalry.
