Seven of the first eight batters reached base for the Oakland A's in the top of the eighth inning, and not one of them got there via a base hit. Orioles relievers walked six batters and hit the other with a pitch. They walked in four runs in the inning and have served up five RBI walks overall. Kam Mickolio had three of them.

The inning mercifully ended with the A's scoring a total of eight runs on one hit -- a grand slam by Rajai Davis, who came into the game as a pinch runner earlier in the same inning.

There's only one possible explanation for this totally off-the-wall performance. The Orioles must have given Dave Trembley a contract extension today.
