Say what you want about Manny Ramirez and the machinations he employed to get out of Boston, he has lifted the Los Angeles Dodgers on his shoulders and boosted them to the top of the National League West standings.
Ramirez homered and drove in five runs yesterday to lead the Dodgers to a 7-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks and into first place by a half game. He has 11 home runs and 34 RBI in 33 games since at the end of July.
Of course, the Dodgers and their fans are in love with the guy. I wouldn't be surprised if Joe Torre sprouted some dreadlocks before this season is over. Talked to a Dodgers employee the other day and he just swooned over Manny's work ethic since arriving in LA.
Nobody should be surprised about Manny being money. He wants to stick it to the Red Sox and he wants another mega-contract. Everybody knows, however, that he eventually will go into one of his moods and start being Manny again.
