The New York-Penn League All-Star Game will take place at 7:15 p.m. tonight in Troy N.Y. at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, home of the Tri-City Valley Cats. The Valley Cats are the short-season Single-A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
Three players will represent the IronBirds at tonight's game. Left-handed pitcher Cole McCurry, catcher Caleb Joseph and left fielder Robbie Widlansky will play on the American League All-Star team against the National League All-Stars. The format of the NYPL's game is somewhat unique. The league is split into three divisions – McNamara, Stedler and Pinckney – so the best logical way to separate the players is by their parent team's league.
McCurry, who was drafted by the Orioles in the 43rd round of the 2007 draft, is 7-1 with a 2.47 ERA in 12 starts this season at Aberdeen. He has two complete games, including one shutout. Joseph is currently hitting .278 with five home runs and 23 RBIs. The Orioles' seventh-round draft pick in this year's draft also leads the NYPL with 17 doubles. Widlansky is hitting .279 with four home runs and 29 RBIs. He was the Orioles' 11th-round selection in 2007.
Autograph sessions begin tonight at 5 p.m. and the Home Run Derby will start around 6 p.m. Fireworks will conclude the evening after the game is completed.
