Should the Orioles retire any other numbers?

Definitely had a rough week at the bar. I guess news of that teeny salmonella outbreak in the kitchen had legs.

I fixed the neon sign out front and it definitely now says, 'Open.' (For a while there it was flickering. Rob K., appreciate the interest. There were some anxious moments, but the bar will remain open for the near future. It definitely has been a tough time at The Sun. We've lost some great people that are going to be impossible to replace.)

We are carrying on today with a topic that comes from Kent Island Joe. It sort of fits with occasional discussion on numbers. We'll probably get to another number debate this week. And we are always looking for suggestions for all types of topics.

More important, though, we want your comments. Coming in is great, but you need to plunk yourself down at the bar and engage in some debate.

As most of you know, the Orioles have retired six uniform numbers: 4 (Earl Weaver), 5 (Brooks Robinson), 8 (Cal Ripken Jr.), 20 (Frank Robinson) 22 (Jim Palmer) and 33 (Eddie Murray). Also 42 (Jackie Robinson) is retired, in accordance with MLB rules.

There is no randomness involving the above. Those are the six men who have gone into the Baseball Hall of Fame as modern-day Orioles. No other Orioles' numbers are retired.

KI Joe wants to know whether you think the club should retire other numbers, and if so, which ones? I know in the past there was some interest in retiring 44, long-time coach and player Elrod Hendricks' number.

As I have written before, Hendricks was one of my favorites in the eight-plus years I have spent in the Orioles' clubhouse. And I'll guarantee this: So long as clubhouse attendant Jimmy Tyler gives out uniforms, No. 44 will be safe. But it is not officially retired -- and probably never will be.

Maybe there are others whose numbers you think should be retired? Or should the line be drawn for Hall of Famers and no others?

Daily Think Special: Are there any other uniform numbers that the Orioles should retire?
