Garrett Olson

It hasn't been easy, but Garrett Olson is pitching into the sixth inning.

He breezed through the first, striking out two batters, but he's put runners on base in every other inning.

Two walks in the fourth.

A walk and single in the fifth.

Not only is Olson still pitching, he's protecting a 4-3 lead.

(UPDATE); Not anymore. By the time this entry landed, Olson had served up a two-run shot to Brandon Inge.

Melvin Mora isn't stranding runners tonight. He had a run-scoring double in the second and a solo homer in the fourth that broke a 3-3 tie.

The Orioles have run themselves into two more outs on the bases. Mora broke for home on Jay Payton's grounder to third. The Tigers got the force at second, and Placido Polanco fired home to cut down Mora. And Nick Markakis tagged on Aubrey Huff's fly ball to left, hesitated more than halfway and was an easy out.

Switching topics, American League manager Terry Francona phoned Orioles president Andy MacPhail to explain why he needed George Sherrill for 2 1/3 innings. The Orioles weren't happy about it.

Also, Matt Wieters has extended his hitting streak to 15 games tonight.
