Sun Ravens beat writer Jamison Hensley, covering the NFL owners meetings in Palm Beach, reported in his article in today's newspaper and on the Sun's Web site the news that the Ravens have been awarded four compensatory draft picks (item at bottom of article). But in case you missed it and since the subject of compensatory picks comes up in reader comments just about any time we discuss the draft, here's the recap.
The Ravens have received four draft picks for the upcoming draft later this month. Those picks come at the end of the regular third, fourth, six and sevenths rounds. As expected, the third-rounder, the No. 99 pick overall and the very last pick of that round, is for linebacker Adalius Thomas who the Ravens lost last year as a free agent to New England. The fourth-rounder was for OT Tony Pashos; the sixth-rounder for FB Ovie Mughelli, and the seventh-rounder for DL Aubrayo Franklin. The Cincinnati Bengals also got four comp picks.
The third-rounder obviously helps fill the draft gap left when the Ravens gave up a third-round selection to Buffalo in the Willis McGahee trade.
