Objective sportscasters? We object!

My previous post about Dick Vitale's selection to the Basketball Hall of Fame inevitably led to comments about his assumed bias in favor of Duke, which got me to thinking about all of those other sportscasters and their assumed biases. I'm not saying I buy into any of these, but let's make a little list based on perceptions:

*Bob Costas: Loves the Yankees. Keeps a Mickey Mantle baseball card in his wallet. Oh, and he hates Baltimore because of his comments after the Browns' move.

*Billy Packer: Too pro North Carolina. Or is that Duke? Or is it just anyone other than Maryland?

*John Madden: Brett Favre can do no wrong.

*Chris Berman: Nose to nose with Madden on Favre.

*Tim McCarver: Whatever team he might like pales in comparison with the way he adores the sound of his own voice. (Unlike the first four, I really mean this one.)

That's just a start. Let's hear some of yours, serious or tongue-in-cheek. E-mail me at ray.frager@baltsun.com. (I'm trying to pick up on the trick of my talented fellow baltimoresun.com blogger, Kevin Van Valkenburg, whose Life of Kings has gotten off to such a tremendous start. He solicits e-mails, and the respondents basically write one of his entries for him. Very clever, young Jedi.)
