So this is why the Orioles are carrying 13 pitchers.

They might need them all tonight.

Steve Trachsel threw 32 pitches in the third inning and recorded only one out - when catcher Ramon Hernandez cut down Gregg Zaun trying to steal third base. For the game, he threw 67 pitches in 2 1/3 innings and left with the Orioles trailing, 4-0.

Trachsel walked three batters in the third. He hit David Eckstein to begin the game.

Of the five outs, two came courtesy of Hernandez's throws.

Now we have Greg Aquino, regarded as Plan B if George Sherrill failed as the closer. Now he's the long man.

Meanwhile, I'm having a much better night than Trachsel. I threw down a buck in the time-of-game pool and picked Friday.
