Daniel Cabrera entered the sixth inning with his pitch count at 42 (30 strikes). He hadn't allowed a run, and though the Nationals had two hits, he faced the minimum number of batters.
Cabrera began to tire, and Garrett Guzman belted a two-run homer to right - the ball clearing the bleachers. Cabrera retired only one batter, but reliever Randor Bierd stranded two runners.
It was an outstanding performance by Cabrera. He's had two excellent ones, and two poor ones.
One of Cabrera's five strikeouts came on a changeup. That's encouraging.
The Orioles lead, 8-2. Luke Scott hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Brian Roberts had a two-run double in the fourth. Ramon Hernandez entered the game batting .200, but he's 3-for-3.
