As a rookie, Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick went 10-4 with a sub-4.00 ERA last year, so what's his reward?
He gets traded. To JAPAN! At least that was the prank that everyone seemed to be in on including Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr., Kenrick's teammates (notably, Brett Myers) and even, it appears, some members of the media.
When Kendrick was told, he was naturally stunned so it's easy to understand that he didn't notice that the guy that his paperwork apparently explained he was being traded for was named Kobayashi -- that's the famous hot dog eating champion. Credits to With Leather and Crashburnalley for bringing it to our attention.
