Now exhale

The Orioles have scheduled a 5:30 p.m. news conference at the warehouse, where team president Andy MacPhail will take questions about the Erik Bedard trade.

That makes it official. It's done. Sweet relief -- and I'm not just referring to George Sherrill.

Sorry I was unable to post an entry earlier, but as you can imagine, it's been pretty crazy for the local media. I have a variety of assignments for The Sun and probably won't be able to co-host The Hot Stove Show tonight, but I will dip into the blog again later.

I'll pass along some comments from Bedard's former teammates. They'll miss having him at the top of the rotation, but they understand that a rebuilding club has to make this trade.

Reliever Jamie Walker had no idea which players were coming to the Orioles. He hasn't exactly been a prisoner of all the trade speculation.

When I mentioned Sherrill, he seemed pretty excited. And now I understand why. They're both products of Austin Peay State University.

More to come.
