Hello from BWI Airport, or whatever they're calling it these days. I know it stopped being Friendship Airport a long time ago.
I skated out of Eldersburg like Kimmie Meissner but encountered only rain at the airport. I'm scheduled to arrive in Fort Lauderdale at 1:10 p.m., but I haven't been on a flight in a year that arrived on time. And they're still talking about tornados down there.
Veterans of this blog will remember that I missed my flight last year – the plane pulled away from the gate as my face was pressed against the glass – and I scrambled to get a Southwest flight, which required me to sprint from the AirTran terminal and almost pull a hamstring. Instead, I strained my oblique, but who didn't?
Pitchers and catchers are required to report today. Some of them arrive in the morning, others later in the afternoon. Some guys just call the manager or a team official from the hotel or condo and wait until the workout date to drop off their gear.
Manager Dave Trembley is expected to meet with reporters in a casual setting – probably his office – and I'm sure they'll pounce on Steve Trachsel when he arrives.
Time to board my flight. So far, so good.
I'll file an entry from the media workroom later today, assuming I don't run into any problems. A flight, baggage claim, rental car, the drive to the stadium…heck, what could go wrong?
EDIT: They started boarding my flight before I had time to file this entry, so I had to turn off my computer and fire it back up on the plane. My first glitch.
