Handicapping (really) the next Ravens coach

Thank you for supporting our journalism. This article is available exclusively for our subscribers, who help fund our work at The Baltimore Sun.

The following comes from, the Internet presence for online gambling operator Bodog. The folks there have posted odds on certain Ravens-related events, such as Brian Billick's next job, who will be the new head coach and who will be the starting QB for next season's opener.

Bodog handicaps the individual favorite for the head coaching job as Indianapolis assistant Jim Caldwell by a slim margin, followed closely by Rex Ryan, Mike Singletary and Jason Garrett.

But before you put too much stock in these odds, consider that former Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Fassel is tied with a handful of guys for third and that Josh McDaniels is still on the list (he's said he's not interested in a head coaching for for next season). I think most telling is that the betting favorite is the Field, meaning anyone other than the guys listed.

According to a representative from  Bodog, folks can actually wager on these events. In Las Vegas, casinos would not be permitted to take a wager on something like whether a guy signs or not, or a new head coach because it's an event where the outcome is something about which someone can have prior knowledge. But occasionally, online gambling sites will take such wagers, such as Time Magazine's Person of the Year.

So here goes (again, the odds were sent to me by a representative of Bodog who cautions that the odds can be fluid).
