Checking Venezuela and the warehouse

According to the Mariners, Adam Jones has been cleared to play tonight for Lara of the Venezuelan Winter League.
So all we need to know is why he was pulled from the lineup over the weekend, and why he's back in it.
Meanwhile, we shouldn't forget that the Orioles still need a closer. They've had contact in the last few days with the representative for free agent Octavio Dotel, but late-inning relief isn't a top priority. And Greg Aquino remains an in-house option.
I doubt that backup catcher has team president Andy MacPhail tossing and turning at night, but the Orioles have spoken with the representative for free-agent catcher Rod Barajas. I'm just not sure how recently, and that's a pretty important detail.
I'll get back to that later.
I asked MacPhail about reports that talks between the Orioles and Cubs are dead, and he replied: "We haven't closed any doors."
However, don't look for any deals to go down tomorrow. It doesn't appear that the Orioles are that close to finalizing anything.

I'm also told that the training staff checked out Adam Loewen today at Camden Yards and his shoulder and elbow didn't bring any concern. Executive vice president Mike Flanagan mentioned that Loewen is in "great shape" and just needs to continue throwing to build up arm strength.
