One of my favorite guys in baseball, Tom Trebelhorn, has decided to put his retirement on hold.

Trebelhorn has accepted a job as manager of the short-season Class A Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the San Francisco Giants' system.

The Volcanoes are based in Oregon, which happens to be Trebelhorn's native state. This sounds like a perfect fit for Trebelhorn, whose teaching skills will come in handy at this level.

At last count, there were 19 current or former Orioles in the Mitchell Report. Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons are the only ones still on the 40-man roster.

I almost missed Ricky Bones, who admitted to using steroids in 2000, one year after leaving the Orioles. Bones said he obtained a prescription for the drug, and for painkillers, in Puerto Rico while dealing with a degenerative hip condition that later led to duel hip replacement surgery in '03.

Darren Holmes, who passed through town in 2000, said he received a shipment of hGH that unexpectedly included testosterone. He decided to throw away the package after consulting with his wife.
