Sure, it will get them bowl-eligible, but everybody in the program I talked to yesterday is shooting for seven to guarantee a postseason appearance.
The ACC gets eight automatic bids (including the Orange Bowl), and five teams have already earned at least six wins heading into this weekend, and three more are one win away.
Maryland is not among those eight -- yet.
Ralph Friedgen said yesterday the main thing right now is getting a winning record.
"If we could get to a bowl game, that would be to me a successful season with all the adversity we've had," he said. "That's not going to be an easy task with the games we have remaining, but I think our kids can do that."
Here's the only other option: Boston College makes it to the ACC championship game and loses. Odds are the Eagles would be selected for another BCS bowl, opening up one more spot.
The odds of that, though, are about as good as Maryland knocking off BC.
