Jeff Weaver is a free agent and the Mariners don't want him.

Could he be the positive veteran influence and innings eater behind Erik Bedard in the Orioles' rotation?

I'm SO kidding.

A scout noted how the Orioles were 11-30 in one-run games and said it directly reflected on the bullpen. He obviously knows there weren't a lot of 1-0 losses.

I've heard more than one observer predict that Kyle Farnsworth will be closing for the Orioles next season. He has one more year remaining on the three-year, $17 million deal he signed with the Yankees, who would have to work up the nerve to trade him within the division. They'd probably hate to take that risk.

I'm SO kidding.

Farnsworth does sound like one of those Orioles acquisitions -- in the Doug Jones/Heathcliff Slocumb mold. He could do a reverse Danys Baez and be the primary closer while also helping in a set-up role.

Sounds more appealing by the minute, doesn't it?

The same scout I mentioned higher up ranks the Orioles as the worst team in baseball. He used the term "ugly" to describe them.

That's got to sting.

Still no word on how manager Dave Trembley will structure the rest of his coaching staff. That means still no word on whether pitching coach Leo Mazzone and hitting coach Terry Crowley will return. Talk to four people and you'll get four different predictions.
