Erik Bedard had an MRI today on his right side that revealed only a strained oblique muscle - nothing that caught the Orioles by surprise.

That's the good news.

How quickly Bedard can return remains a mystery, however.

You saw what happened with catcher Ramon Hernandez before Opening Night, and how Double-A Bowie outfielder Nolan Reimold went on the disabled list twice with the same injury. These things tend to linger. But at least it's nothing more serious.

Bedard will rejoin the team in Baltimore, rather than make a meaningless trip to St. Petersburg.

Also, Rob Bell cleared waivers today and is expected to return to the club.
