Couldn't they at least have sent a Spice Girl?

This David Beckham injury thing is getting just a wee bit ugly.

Yesterday, the Los Angeles Galaxy -- the team that gave the English soccer superstar a five-year deal worth a reported $250 million --- was in Dallas for a multi-team tournament.  Dallas FC upped the prices on its tickets, largely because of Beckham.  The best seats were $250 and the cheapest were $35.

Now, Beckham has had an ankle injury ever since he arrived in the United States to great fanfare along with his celebrity wife Victoria, formerly Posh Spice of the Spice Girls. So, his playing status has been iffy for a few weeks.  But in Dallas, he didn't even show up to stand (or sit) on the sidelines.  He was back in L.A.

Little children were crying. The Dallas soccer organization was embarrassed.

OK, the U.S. isn't the type of place where we have soccer riots but it can't get pret-ty uncomfortable for high-priced athletes who fall out of favor (see: Bonds, Barry.)  So here's a link to a Dallas TV report on people who said they spent $1,500 to see Beckham.  Ouch!
