Some good news from the self-proclaimed Worldwide Leader in Sports, as ESPN announced today that it has hired longtime tennis analyst/reporter Bud Collins for its Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon telecasts, starting next year.

Collins, who was bounced from NBC's team this year after 35 years, is one of the foremost tennis writers in the country, having plied his trade for the Boston Globe before coming to NBC.

His garish suits and style for bombast livened up the often stodgy tennis telecasts and a happy consequence of Collins going to ESPN is that he will work occasionally with Dick Enberg, his former partner at NBC.

Collins will report at the U.S. Open later this month for ESPN.
