During the time I spend on the phone today for the weekly ACC coaches teleconference, you could watch the entire Simpsons movie AND a Seinfeld rerun, and still have three minutes to spare.

It would undoubtedly be more entertaining, especially today, when nobody has played a game yet and everyone is facing a "tough opponent." (Sorry, Ralph, but you're supposed to beat I-AA Villanova.)

It definitely won't be the same without the raspy voice of Chuck Amato spouting off about being on a "hot seat," or poor Larry Coker trying to explain, well, Miami.

No, it should be pretty tame today, although there are some good games on Saturday. If I were watching at home, I'd look for Wake Forest at Boston College at 3:30 p.m. on ABC, and flip between that and Georgia Tech at Notre Dame on NBC. Maybe I'll catch the first quarter before heading to College Park for the Terps' 6 p.m. opener against Villanova. Hopefully, it won't be another 14-10 thriller like last year's game against Florida International. (There's really no need for close games on tight deadlines against Division I-AA teams.)

So from 10:30-12:30 (every Wednesday til' death do us part), my line will be busy. I'll be checking e-mail, though, and if I get REALLY bored, I might even read the message boards. By the end of the day, I'll have compiled some ACC notes for you to read in the paper every Thursday morning.

Eventually, things will get interesting.
