Another programming alert: I'll be appearing on Animal Planet later tonight, chasing down a gazelle. Be sure to tune in.

I fully expect to arrive at Camden Yards today and report that Chris Ray is going on the disabled list with a bone spur in his right elbow. Look for James Hoey to rejoin the team, though Cory Doyne certainly has impressed at Triple-A Norfolk.

Ray will play catch today before the Orioles make a decision. Catching the ball won't be the problem.

The Orioles are hoping that Ray can continue pitching with the spur, whether he goes on the disabled list first or just takes a few days off, but you know how these things work. They also hoped Kris Benson could avoid surgery. And Hayden Penn. And Adam Loewen.

They won't rush Ray to an operating table, but a procedure seems inevitable. Do you want your young closer walking around with a painful spur in his elbow? What if it becomes a serious issue in March?

In the meantime, it's always possible that the spur will magically disappear. Or Ray suddenly will stop noticing it.

It's also possible that I'll catch that gazelle.
