The Orioles placed catcher Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised groin, and they've purchased Alberto Castillo's contract from Triple-A Norfolk. Castillo is expected to join the team tonight.
Hernandez thinks he'll be ready to return when eligible. The move is retroactive to yesterday.
"I've been hit there before, but not that hard like I was that time," he said. "It really swelled up and was all bruised. You couldn't even touch it. It's really painful right now."
Probably too much information.
Pitcher Adam Loewen will be examined later this week by Dr. James Andrews. Surgery hasn't been ruled out, since the bone in his left elbow is healing slower than expected, but Loewen said he's been pain-free for quite a while.
Also, the Orioles drafted Sam Perlozzo's son, Eric, a middle infielder at Shippensburg University.
And for those of you wondering, there will be another Brian's Bash at the ESPN Zone on Aug. 26. More details to come.
