The Orioles did, indeed, selection Triple-A pitcher Alfredo Simon in the Rule 5 draft. Then they promptly traded him to the Phillies for catcher Adam Donachie and cash.

The Phillies selected Donachie, 22, from the Royals system earlier in the day before trading him. He played at Single-A and Double-A this past season, batting .247 with eight homers and 31 RBIs in 91 games.

The Orioles lost two players in the Triple-A phase of the draft, both off Bowie's roster. The Rangers claimed pitcher Kendy Batista and the Marlins nabbed outfielder Lorenzo Scott. Neither guy has to stay on the major league roster.

The Orioles completed their trade with the Cubs by sending them minor league pitcher Kevin Hart as the player to be named later for Freddie Bynum.
