Break up the Orioles!

Daniel Cabrera isn't sure that he's a better pitcher now than a year ago at this time. He's 4-3 with a 4.73 ERA in nine starts since returning from Triple-A Ottawa on Aug. 8.

Cabrera also is 5-1 with a 3.22 ERA in seven career starts against the Twins.

"I deal with the same problems, I walk people," he said. "But I try to take all the positive things that happened this year and take them into next year."

His biggest contribution might be helping the Orioles land Mark Teixeira in a trade this winter.

Manager Sam Perlozzo would have brought in Chris Britton in the eighth if leadoff hitter Joe Mauer had reached against left-hander Brian Burres. Instead, Mauer flied out, Michael Cuddyer grounded out and Justin Morneau struck out.

Burres threw 19 of his 25 pitches for strikes.

Twins starter Carlos Silva is 0-3 with an 8.47 ERA in three starts against the Orioles this season.

David Newhan iced his left knee four times today, and X-rays taken were negative. But he's still hurting, and it's doubtful that he'll be able to play tomorrow.
