Jeff Conine was part of the Orioles' past.
Let's look into the future.
Billy Rowell, taken in the first round of this year's draft, has been promoted from Bluefield to Aberdeen, where he'll bat fifth tonight and start at third base.
Rowell batted .329 with two homers and 26 RBIs in 42 games at Bluefield. He batted .375 this month and had two four-hit games in the last week.
Aberdeen is in a playoff race for the first time in it's five-year history, one game back in the wild card chase. Five teams are within 1 1/2 games, with 11 remaining, so it should be interesting.
The Orioles are doing their part to assist the IronBirds. They've also sent starter Zack Clark (5-4, 2.11 ERA) and reliever Brent Allar (eight saves, 1.59 ERA) to Aberdeen. Clark will start Wednesday and replaces sixth-round pick Jason Berken, who was allowed to return to Clemson for the fall semester.
On a side note, I hope the IronBirds realize how lucky they are to have Steve Melewski working for them.
