Five things:

1. Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis closed out a hot June with a 3-for-3 performance against Atlanta on Friday night. He is 10-for-18 (.556) in his last five games and batted .338 in June.

2. Jeff Conine also looks like he's getting on track for the O's. The 40-year-old outfielder is 11-for-22 (.500) with a pair of homers in his last five games.

3. I mentioned before that Daniel Cabrera is not a guy I would want on my fantasy squad. If you want to hold on to him because he has the ability to strike guys out and might put everything together down the road, be prepared for frustration the rest of the year. On Friday night, Cabrera had one of his usual outings, allowing three earned runs in five innings while walking four and striking out seven. Cabrera has gone eight starts without pitching more than six innings.

4. Have you noticed what National League third basemen have done the first half of the season? Three of the top five hitters in the NL are third basemen (Pittsburgh's Freddy Sanchez, Florida's Miguel Cabrera and St. Louis' Scott Rolen). Meanwhile, the guy the Orioles are facing this weekend, Chipper Jones, is 12-for-25 (.480) in his last seven games.

5. In case you missed it, Tuesday was Chacin Cologne Night in Toronto. The Blue Jays dished out 10,000 vials of a fragrance designed by pitcher Gustavo Chacin as part of a promotion with a local radio station. For the record, he has a 5.61 ERA on the season. I guess you could say that stinks.
