UP

Adrian Gonzalez, first baseman, Padres: He has been the best fantasy player out there during the past week, and he is probably available in many leagues. Gonzalez is 10-for-22 (.455) with five homers, 12 RBIs and eight runs scored in his last five games.

Brian McCann, catcher, Braves:  This 22-year-old is one of several reasons why Atlanta is on a tear offensively. McCann is 14-for-32 (.438) with four homers and 15 RBIs in his last seven games. He is batting .351, which would be good enough for second in the National League if he had enough at-bats.

Vicente Padilla, starter, Rangers: He has won four straight starts and lost once in his last eight. Padilla is 10-5 with a 4.15 ERA on the season. He has allowed three earned runs or less in seven of his last eight outings.

DOWN

Jonny Gomes, designated hitter, Devil Rays: A shoulder injury could be hampering him as Gomes has gone 0-for-17 since the All-Star break. He showed great power at the beginning of the season, slamming 11 homers in April, but has hit only seven since.

Hank Blalock, third baseman, Rangers: He is 3-for-21 in five games since the All-Star break and has homered once in his last 18 games. However, Blalock's average is up from a year ago and he is striking out once every 7.7 at-bats compared to once every 4.9 at-bats in 2005.

Jason Schmidt, starter, Giants: The subject of several trade rumors, San Francisco's ace is 0-4 in his last seven starts. In his last outing against the Brewers, Schmidt allowed 10 hits and six earned runs in six innings.
