Catcher Eli Whiteside hit two home runs tonight for Triple-A Ottawa in a 6-4 win over Syracuse. Andy Tracy hit his 6th, and Keith Reed clubbed his third homer and added an RBI triple.
I can't let an Ottawa reference go without mentioning Howie Clark. He had a run-scoring double.
Did you see where former Orioles pitcher Nerio Rodriguez was suspended 50 games for using a performance-enhancing substance? Rodriguez pitches for Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pirates' system.
I had this quote passed along to me from another former Oriole, reliever Steve Kline, regarding the four-game suspension handed down to Astros pitcher Russ Springer related to Springer throwing at Barry Bonds:
"I got four (games) for bumping an umpire last year," Kline said. "I bumped my coach into him. It might be too much. I don't know if he did it on purpose or not. Who am I to judge? I'm just a relief pitcher."
Kris Benson still has his four-hit shutout intact in the eighth inning, and the Orioles are leading, 5-0. Ed Rogers has two singles and an RBI in the leadoff spot. Brian Roberts just reported that he's not quite as sore as he thought.
Corey Patterson has a triple, single, stolen base and two runs scored.
A reporter sitting next to me says Patterson is the fastest player he's seen in person. Joey Gathright would rank pretty high, too.
What do you think?
