Bruce Chen's luck ran out in the fourth inning, and he's trailing the Boston Red Sox, 1-0.
Coco Crisp ran the Red Sox out of the third inning when he broke too soon for third base on an attempted steal. Chen looked surprised and hesitated before throwing to Melvin Mora, who waited to apply the tag. And David Ortiz led off the fourth by getting thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double.
With two outs, Jason Varitek doubled to right-center field and Mike Lowell walked before Kevin Youkilis lined a 3-2 pitch into left field to break the scoreless tie.
Wily Mo Pena struck out for the second time to end the inning. Pena has swung through six of the seven pitches he's seen from Chen, most of them high fastballs.
The Orioles have one hit off Curt Schilling, Jay Gibbons' one-out single in the second inning. Javy Lopez walked with two outs, but Manny Ramirez ran down Jeff Conine's fly ball in left.
By the way, the six walks issued by Daniel Cabrera in the first inning of Friday night's game were the most by an Oriole in one inning, according to Dave Smith of Retrosheet.
