Better late than never

I had a long phone call and couldn't post this earlier, but in case you hadn't heard, Luis Matos went on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder. The Orioles purchased the contract of catcher Raul Chavez from Triple-A Ottawa, and moved David Newhan to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster.

So early in the season, and the injuries already are piling up.

Miguel Tejada admitted that thoughts of last season ran through his mind when Newhan fractured his right fibula. Pretty much any season would have been appropriate. Doesn't this happen every year?

I forgot to relay this yesterday, but the Orioles had some discussions about former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Ross, but weren't impressed enough to consider signing him. Or so I'm told.

And speaking of forgetting: Lynne, the press box is behind home plate on the lower level. The radio and television types are above us. I'm almost directly behind the plate.
