A new defensive tackle in town

How badly did the Ravens want Haloti Ngata that they traded up one spot to take him with the 12th pick? Is Ngata going to be that much better than Broderick Bunkley?

You have to assume the Ravens were worried that the Cleveland Browns would snatch up Ngata. With the 13th pick, they passed on Bunkley and selected defensive end Kamerion Wimbley. Maybe tackle wasn't such a high priority.

Ngata is 338 pounds. Is that big enough for you, Ray Lewis?

How did Ngata end up hanging in Las Vegas for the draft, instead of joining everyone else in New York? Now there's an assignment I wouldn't have passed up.

I was wondering earlier about the last time a Maryland player went as high as tight end Vernon Davis at No. 6. Are we going all the way back to Randy White?

And what about quarterback Jay Cutler at No. 11? Has a Vanderbilt player gone that high? It's not exactly a football factory, though this would come as news to Washington Post national baseball writer Dave Sheinin, who believes that Vandy should be the pre-season No. 1 every year.

Back to the Orioles: Reliever Todd Williams was summoned into manager Sam Perlozzo's office earlier this afternoon. A few minutes later, reliever Chris Britton paid the same visit. Now Britton is packing his bags.

We might have a roster move to announce. Just a hunch.
