Thank you for supporting our journalism. This article is available exclusively for our subscribers, who help fund our work at The Baltimore Sun.

Here we go — another Sun writer enters the blogosphere. As you might have guessed from the name, this one will be about reality TV.

I'll be approaching the shows as a fan in some cases, but one who's kind of embarrassed about how much I watch yet still curious about what the genre truly has to offer. (Plus, there will be the inevitable dish about the people who sign up for these shows — how many more contestants will have their supposedly shady pasts revealed by The Smoking Gun?)

That said, here's some of what you can expect:

  • We’ll be keeping an eye on local-girl-gone-WWE Stacy Keibler as she competes in Dancing With the Stars 2 (Thursdays on ABC).
  • American Idol 97 (OK, it’s only season five) kicks off on Jan. 17-18 on Fox. Who will be the next Kelly Clarkson/Ruben Studdard/Carrie Underwood/Bo Bice/Clay Aiken/Ryan Starr/William Hung? (But please don’t give us another Ryan Seacrest.)
  • We’ll probably make mention of whatever crazy thing the designers of Project Runway 2 (Wednesdays on Bravo) have to come up with next — as well as marvel that they are using actual skills (Sketching! Sewing! Creativity!) instead of just rolling boulders around or eating live bugs or solving puzzles. (Not that we won’t be watching Survivor when season 12 debuts on CBS on Feb. 2.)

That's just the beginning, but that's all for now! I hope you will enjoy this and chime in — and, you know, not laugh at me too much for my viewing choices.
