Despite rumors that the Orioles have completed a trade sending reliever Jorge Julio to the Mets for starter Kris Benson, two team sources said nothing is imminent, and that the talks aren't "hot." Warm, perhaps, but not hot. Take that for what it's worth.

A stir was created earlier today when MSGnetwork.com posted a report saying the deal was done, but it was later removed. It's clear that the Mets are shopping Benson, who's owed $15 million over the next two years. One theory is that they want to clear room on the payroll for Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez. Another theory is that they are trying to acquire starter Javier Vazquez. They clearly need bullpen help, though Julio is in such decline, they might be looking in the wrong direction.

There's also a buzz that the Orioles are curious about what new pitching coach Leo Mazzone could do with Julio, and the club might want to hold onto him, at least through spring training. Believe what you want.

I'll withhold all Anna Benson jokes until a deal is announced.
