US Airways jet crashes into Hudson River

According to news reports, a US Airways A320 jet has crashed into the Hudson River on takeoff from LaGuardia Airport in New York. At this point, to much amazement and thankfulness, it looks like everyone onboard was able to evacuate safely.

From what I saw on TV, it looked like the plane was practically floating in the water. TV reported that scuba divers have been through the fuselage and there was no one to rescue. Ferries, boats and other craft came to the rescue of passengers who appeared to be standing on the wings of the plane.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. and may have been caused by a flock of geese or other birds damaging equipment. The plane was en route to Charlotte.
