If the top guys are gone, whom should the Orioles sign?

One day and night at the bar and we're seemingly back to normal.

Rob K's cracking jokes, Putin is bouncing things off the wall and most of you still profess a love for "Baltimore" on the road jerseys.

You'll officially get your wish this afternoon.

I hear the road jerseys are the coolest part of the redesign. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts after the new threads are unveiled.

Rusty gets free drinks today for his comment during Tuesday's discussion that his wish is for "winners on the inside of the unis." Sure, he wasn't the only one to express that sentiment Tuesday. But he was the first. So grab the drink chips, Rusty.

We're going to follow up on his thought, now that free agency is almost officially upon us (offers can be made to any free agent starting Friday).

Yes, first baseman Mark Teixeira is the guy everyone around here wants. And there's a slight possibility it could happen because of his Baltimore roots. A.J. Burnett is probably the No. 2 target, since he, too, has a reason outside of baseball to sign here (his wife and kids live in Monkton).

CC Sabathia might be the surest thing on the market, but he isn't coming here. And neither is Manny Ramirez. Neither side is suggesting that one.

Let's take away those four and shortstop Orlando Cabrera, simply because with that quartet gone, Cabrera is the biggest name who fills the Orioles' most glaring hole. It's too easy of an answer. I want to make you work at this.

So, assuming Teixeira, Burnett, Sabathia, Ramirez and Cabrera are gone, who is your top free agent remaining for the Orioles?

Do you go for a shortstop such as Rafael Furcal or Edgar Renteria? How about a starter such as Ryan Dempster, Ben Sheets or Jon Garland? Or an outfielder such as Adam Dunn, Raul Ibanez or Bobby Abreu?

Each one of these guys will still command big dollars. Do you want to go that way or should the Orioles pass on the remaining crop and conserve their bucks if they can't land Tex or A.J.?

Here's a pretty solid list of who is available courtesy Cot's Contracts.

This isn't about who you think the Orioles will sign this offseason. We'll address that later. It's whom you want, assuming the Forbidden Five won't come here.

Daily Think Special: Whom do you want the Orioles to sign, assuming Teixeira, Burnett, Sabathia, Ramirez and Cabrera are unavailable? And why?
