Jane P. Baker

Jane P. Baker, a homemaker and Our Daily Bread volunteer, died of a heart attack Aug. 24 at the Edenwald Retirement Community. She was 90 and lived in Guilford and the Orchards for many years.

Born Jane Burton Parr in Portsmouth, Va., she moved to Baltimore as a child and lived in Mount Washington. She was a Cathedral School graduate and met her future husband, attorney George W. Baker, at the Catholic Action Guild, a volunteer club that met at the school.

Mrs. Baker was a 1939 Western High School graduate. She attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she studied fashion design and Mount St. Agnes College.

She was a member of the Baltimore Country Club for more than 60 years and had been active in the Paint and Powder Club, the Three Arts Club and Woman's Club of Roland Park. She was also a past president of the Baltimore Academy of the Visitation Mothers' Club.

She and her husband lived for a number of years at the Charles Towers in downtown Baltimore. Their apartment was featured in a National Geographic magazine article.

She was an Our Daily Bread and Stella Maris Hospice volunteer. Mrs. Baker was also a bridge player. As a young woman she enjoyed golf, tennis and horseback riding.

Survivors include a son, William P. Baker of Timonium; a sister, Virginia Dorman of Salisbury; and three grandchildren. Her husband of 62 years died in 2006. A son, Robert Burton Baker died in 1966.

Services were held Wednesday.
