Christopher Wool's 'Terrorist'

After the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Baltimore Museum of Art temporarily removed the 1990 painting "Terrorist" by Christopher Wool after visitors complained they found it disturbing. The painting had been on view for years in the museum's contemporary wing and had previously aroused little comment. After a few days, the painting went back up with a new label asking viewers to consider how events may change the meaning of artworks.
