The right accessory can make or break an outfit, or so it's been said. But 26-year-old Columbia resident and designer Tiffany Carter wants her accessories to tell a story. "I'm kind of an accessory fiend," she says. "My inspiration comes from all over the place. It's very fun."
Carter's line, Vesica's Splendor, is full of hats, jewelry, handbags and fascinators -- fancy headpieces that have come back into vogue thanks, in part, to last summer's British royal wedding. Her current collection, Rose Garden Tea Party, was inspired by a mix of floral prints, feathers and shiny accent pieces. Pieces have names like The Countess and The Pompadour and run between $30 and $45.
"I want to encourage people to play with my accessories," she says. "Fashion gives people the freedom to express themselves the way they want."
Vesica's Splendor also includes all-natural bath and body products and perfumes made from essential oils.
Carter's line is available online at her Etsy store, Thinking in Cups.
And what about that name? Carter drew the word vesica from vesica piscis, an ancient symbol of two intersecting circles that she finds meaningful.
