Maryland-made one-of-a-kind art, jewelry and other unique items stock the shelves at love & glitter — a boutique on Main Street in Historic Ellicott City.
"Everything in the store is handmade," says owner Leslie Putman.
She and her husband, co-owner Andrew, add to the inventory with their own jewelry designs, which she says entail "sparkle, shine, glitter and glitz."
"Our jewelry has resin with charms and beads for sparkle, glass and found images of one-of-a-kind for the shine, one-of-a-kind microglitter, and washers — hardware wrapped with beads and colored artist's wire — for the glitz," she summarizes.
Love & glitter opened its doors in June 2010 and this past November trekked across the street to a larger location at 8132 Main St.
And in no time, in came work from local artists. Presently, about 20 Maryland artists have work displayed at love & glitter. Putman does, however, allow her sister, who lives near Pittsburgh, to sell beaded necklaces at her shop.
In addition to jewelry of all kinds, love & glitter has artisan soaps made with olive oil, goat's milk and glycerin, belt buckles made from recycled skateboards, "Wired for You" decorated kitchen gadgets, and "Junk to Funk" flattened wine bottles with painted accoutrements and reattached wine labels.
And the "Two Back Flats" headbands and hair clips by Jasika Scruggs are wearable but pieces of art in themselves. There's also a space at love & glitter that showcases unique plush animals — again, one-of-a-kind — by Plush Riot!
Open 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
